Creating Back-To-School Binders

Something I started a couples years ago when my daughter began pre-school were Back- to-School Binders. They are very easy and inexpensive to put together and will be a great memento of their school years.

First, get a binder. We already had some at home. I put their name on a piece of paper and had them color it. I used this for the front cover. Since they were 3 when they began, the coloring is more like scribble.

Next, I put in the pages for that year. Here are the pages we do, you are welcome to make up your own:

I will tell my new teacher.....

My friends are:
I was so happy to find out:
Something Funny Today Was:

Then, we get to work. They fill in the first 4 the day before the first day of school. The last 2 are filled in after they get home from school on the first day. Every year we build on it by adding in the new pages for that year.

What I love about these are how well they are writing and expressing themselves as they get older. It is a great way to track their progress, friendships and how they view the beginning of school.

I hope you can give a try with your children.

  1. that is such a great idea! I think I should start a binder to store all these great ideas for if/when I have kids :-)

  2. That's a really great idea. I scrapbook my kids' photos, and I did a page of my son's first day of preschool, but I love your ideas on how to build upon that concept with the binder and preparing for school and after school starts, and adding more each year.

My son will be in Kindergarten, and my daughter will be starting preschool, so I just might have to give that a try.

    Thanks!
